1st Choice for Holiday Rentals on Koh Phangan

Pan Yang Thailand

Often pronounced Pan Yang, the tropical island of Koh Phangan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand thanks to its beautiful nature and friendly people. Located between Koh Tao and Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand in the country's south, the island has developed in a unique way due to a number of factors. There is no airport on Pan Yang and tourism is restricted to those ready to travel a bit farther for a more secluded location. As a result, the island has escaped many of the more mainstream tourists that prefer the more developed infrastructure on nearby Koh Samui. Compared to Koh Tao on the other hand, Pan Yang is larger and offers more in terms of nightlife and entertainment than the smaller island, which is dominated by the diving industry.

Pan Yang offers a wide variety of activities and attractions. Some of the island's highlights are accessible by motorbike and most hotels, resorts and guest houses rent out bikes on a daily basis. If biking around on your own doesn't sound like your idea of fun, there are also several half and full day tours offering tourists a good chance to visit the main attractions. Given the beautiful, raw nature of Pan Yang, many of the most visited attractions are natural sites such as waterfalls or viewpoints. The largest waterfall on Pan Yang is located in the Than Sadet Ko Phan Ngan National Park. Another popular waterfall is Phaeng Waterfall in the interior of the island. The hilly terrain provides excellent vistas over the green surroundings and the Thai Gulf in the distance; to find the waterfall, follow the signs from Phaeng Waterfall to Domesila viewpoint just 20 minutes hike away.

The treks in the jungle can be pretty tiring on Koh Phangan but luckily there are plenty of ways to relax on Pan Yang. The island's many spas are also an excellent choice for relaxation and one of the most famous ones is The Sanctuary. Located just north of Haad Rin on the east coast, the place is ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation. Specialising in detox and fasting, The Sanctuary is quite the institution on Pan Yang and the beach resort spa offers several treatments. So if colonic irrigation and fasting for days seem a bit too much, go to The Sanctuary for scrumptious vegetarian cuisine, yoga classes and rejuvenating spa treatments. The spa also offers various treatments for the hair as well as pedicure and manicure.

Due to its location in the Gulf of Thailand, surrounded by crystal clear blue waters, water sports and activities in the water is one of the favourite past times on the island. Several companies offer snorkelling tours and kayaks are available for rent at most of the major beaches or even sometimes provided by private villas. There are some good scuba diving sites around the island just a short boat ride away and several diving schools offer daily tours and scuba diving courses. For those not interested in diving, there are also excursions by speed boat to the nearby Ang Thong National Maine Park, an archipelago of uninhabited islands not far from Pan Yang. The park is perhaps most famous for the emerald lake a salt water lake in one of the larger islands, Ko Mae Ko.

Private rental villas are a relatively recent addition to the accommodation scene on Pang Yang and offer the ideal personalised holiday base for those looking to explore the island's multifarious options while staying in the cosseted comfort of their own island home.
