1st Choice for Holiday Rentals on Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan accomadation

Just north of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand lies Koh Phangan, a relatively undeveloped resort island. As with most popular destinations, Koh Phangnan was first discovered by globetrotting backpackers, but with the mass of international travellers following not far behind. The profile of the island's visitors today is still largely a legacy of the hedonistic Full Moon Parties, as well as the island's focus on wellness and unplugging from the "real world". But Koh Phangan is also on the cusp of welcoming a second wave of visitors, many of them from the initial wave, but now returning with more money to spend and their children in tow.

The natural tourism evolution on Koh Phangan has brought about the a more sophisticated environment in terms of infrastructure, service, and accommodation. The island was once a hippy paradise, complete with cheap seaside bungalows and local food. The basic bamboo shacks situated right on the water's edge are now few and far between, but can still be found for die-hard travellers who hard enough. Nowadays, however, the prime sea views and oceanside vantages are mostly taken up by larger hotel and resort operators. Having said that, Koh Phangnan remains under the radar for most international hotel operators -- the likes of Conrad and W Hotels and Resorts, who all have presence on the bigger sister island of of Koh Samui -- and this has allowed Phangnan to maintain its laid back vibe.

Despite a lack of big brand presence, Koh Phangan's tropical getaway appeal has not gone unnoticed around the world and the island has attracted its fair share of high profile guests such as British actress and a favorite of the Harry Potter films Emma Watson. The high-end luxury resorts on Koh Phangan are increasingly complemented by private villas, which suit the retreat ambience perfectly. Seafront and seaview remain the most popular locations, with price tags to match, but for families of friends sharing, private hillside residences offer a high value escape, with a wealth of in-room luxuries and generous facilities. Companies like Koh Phangan Holiday Homes offer a range of rental properties for the discerning independent visitor.

With the amount of natural attractions on offer, visitors to Koh Phangnan never run out of activities to keep them active and entertained. Diving and snorkeling unsurprisingly remain the most popular pass times. For the SCUBA-certified, Sail Rock and the Southwest Pinnacle are the most sought after dive sites, located between Koh Phangan and the neighbouring (and day-trip worthy) island of Koh Tao. Rewarding snorkeling adventures can also be had right off the shores of Koh Phangan, with the northwestern coast the best bet for an underwater adventure. Kayaking out into the Big Blue is arguably the best way to admire Koh Phangan in all its verdant splendour, while visitors seeking a shady trek should head inland where waterfalls and stunning sea views await.
